Purpose: To observe tonic reflexes and to determine their role in maintenance of body equilibrium in space.

Object of investigation: A Rabbit

Equipment: A rotatory little table, a 70×70cm plank.

Course of work:

  1. Static Reflex of a posture: A rabbit is put on the table and the initial state of its head, body and paws are marked. The rabbit’s head is bent backward, and the changes in the position of paw is observed.
  2. Static Righting reflexes:
    1. The rabbit is put on its side, and the sequence of its head and body returning to initial state is marked.
    1. The investigation is repeated with its head being held.
    1. The investigation is repeated with a plank being held to cover its head.
  3. Statokinetic Lift reflexes: The rabbit is put on a sitting condition on the plank. The plank is then quickly arisen, and the character of the rabbit’s reaction is marked.
  4. Statokinetic Rotatory reflexes: The rabbit is rotated on the table. The movements of head and eyes (nystagmus) is observed.
